Naama Ramayana- Bala Kaanda- English

We are glad to restart a series on the Naama Ramayana, a stotra (hymn) that captures the essence of the Srimad Ramayana in its entirety from the Bala Kaanda to the Uttara Kaanda. 

Here are the verses from the Bala Kaanda in English.

Bala Kaanda- 1

Shuddha-Brahma Paraathpara Ram
Kaalaathmaka Parameshwara Ram
Seshathalpa sukha nidhritha Ram
Brahmaadyamara prarthitha Ram

Meaning - O Sri Rama, Who is Pure Brahman and greater than the greatest
O Sri Rama, you are the Master of Time and Supreme Ishwara
O Sri Rama, who rests on Ananta-Sesha as a bed
O Sri Rama, to whom Brahma and the Devas prayed to

Bala Kaanda- 2

Chandakirana-kulamandana Ram
Srimad-Dasarathanandana Ram
Kaushalya sukha-vardhana Ram
Vishwamitra priya-dhana Ram

Meaning - O Sri Rama, who is jewel of the Suryavamsha
O Sri Rama, who is the dear son of Dasharatha
O Sri Rama, who increases (Mata) Kaushalya’s joy,
O Sri Rama, who is Sage Vishwamitra’s precious treasure, I bow to you

Bala Kaanda- 3

Ghora-Taataka Ghaataka Ram
Maareechaadi-nipaataka Ram
Kaushika-makhasamrakshaka Ram
Srimad-Ahalyoddhaaraka Ram

Meaning - O Sri Rama, who slayed the terrible Taataka
O Sri Rama, who quelled Maarecha and his brothers
O Sri Rama, who guarded the yagna of Sage Vishwamitra
O Sri Rama, who lifted the curse on Devi Ahalya

Bala Kaanda- 4

Gautama-muni sampoojita Ram
Sura-munivaragana samstuta Ram
Naavikadhaavika-mridupada Ram,
Mithilapura-jana mohaka Ram
Videha-maanasa ranjaka Ram

Meaning - O Sri Rama, whom the Sage Gautama worshipped
O Sri Rama, who was hymned by the Devas and Rishis
O Sri Rama, whose Holy Lotus Feet were washed by the Boatman
O Sri Rama, who charmed the citizens of Mithila
O Sri Rama, who gladdened the heart of Raja Janaka

Bala Kaanda- 5

Tryambaka-kaarmukha bhanjaka Ram,
Sitaarpithavaramaalita Ram
Kritavaivaahikakautuka Ram,
Bhaargavadarpa vinaashaka Ram
Srimadayodhyapaalaka Ram

Meaning - O Sri Rama, whom broke the bow of Tryambaka (Mahadeva)
O Sri Rama, whom Devi Sita offered the wedding garland
O Sri Rama, whose marriage was celebrated as a festival,
O Sri Rama, who quelled the pride of Rishi Bhargava Parashurama
O Sri Rama, who is the Protector of the City of Ayodhya

The stotra is said to have been composed by Sri Lakshmanacharya. It is also an easy way for children and adults alike to know the Ramayana through the Rama Naama.
