Yes, what Maharishi Valmiki intends as a curse, emerges from his mouth as a sing-song verse – 

After Devarishi Narada leaves, Maharishi Valmiki goes to take a bath…and ends up cursing a hunter for killing an innocent bird…and also composing the first shloka that sets the tone for the entire Adi Kavya. If you’re wondering how a curse is poetry, here you go…

मा निषाद प्रतिष्ठां त्वमगमः शाश्वतीः समाः |

यत् क्रौञ्चमिथुनादेकमवधीः काममोहितम् ||

Meaning – O violent hunter! As you have killed one bird of a couple that was struck with passion, you will never get everlasting peace for all eternity…”
