While Khara marched to Panchavati along with his demon hosts, Shri Rama and Lakshmana too saw the same signs that had appeared to the demon lord. Shri Rama said, “These omens signal the great annihilation of demons. See these red-tinted clouds showering blood. All my arrows too are fuming and my bow is impatient to shoot those arrows into my enemies’ hearts.”
“Wild birds are shrieking, hinting at danger ahead. My right arm throbs repeatedly, hinting at a fierce battle, but we will undoubtedly win! Why your bright face itself is a good omen.”
So Lakshmana, lift your bow, take Vaidehi with you to that impassable mountain cave, covered with trees. I know you want to be with me here, but if you revere me truly, take Sita and go. I want to eliminate all the demons myself, personally.”
Then wearing armour and wielding a shield and raising his bow and arrows, Shri Rama stood firm, twanging his bowstring. The Devas, Gandharvas, Rishis, Siddhas and Charanas assembled in sky to watch Shri Rama’s leela. But soon they murmured, “Shri Rama is alone and there are 14,000 demons on the other side, what will happen?” and they watched. Shri Rama stood below, looking like the angry Rudra.
At once, the demon hordes arrived there screaming loudly, with their grisly skins, shields, weapons, war flags, drums. Shri Rama stretched his bowstring and twanged it, taking a pose to slay all the demons. Looking like the Pralayaagni, the usually calm Shri Rama looked like Rudra wielding the Pinaaka, rushing to destroy Daksha Yagna.
The Rakshasas, with their powers rising at night, marched ahead like moths into a fire, unaware
that all their armours, Maya and weapons will vanish like the morning dew.
